Today is an important day for equity, diversity and inclusion, not only for the LMA, but for the world. Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. King grew up in a time of enhanced racial discrimination and rose above white nationalism and constant fear to become the most visible leader of the Civil Rights Movement. In his own words, “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”
Today, to honor his legacy, we call together our organization of influencers, trailblazers and pioneers. It’s up to us to reflect on the gains won during the Civil Rights Movement – and echo them as we address the issues faced by all diverse groups in our industry and society through acts of volunteer service and vigorous action. For our part, we will publish a series of “39 Diversity and Inclusion Inspirations” to help lead your way – one inspiration for each of the 39 years we were blessed by Dr. King’s life. We encourage you to join the discussion and share your ideas to combat the divisiveness so prevalent in our society today.
Inspiration #1: Isn’t it Cool that we Can Change Things?

Today’s inspiration comes from Kid President and how we can draw upon the actions of Dr. King. The gist is that no matter where we grew up, how we lived or the future challenges we shall face – we all have the ability to effect change. We encourage you today to dream big and come up with a swing-for-the-fences idea to develop and implement. That dream can be at your law firm, your business, your community or in your personal life. One last thing, don’t forget to write it down, too – we want you to memorialize your daily inspirations and share them with others to dream big. Just like Dr. King.
And P.S. – if you don’t already subscribe to Kid President’s channel, you should. It’s brilliant.
